Daewoo E&C will construct a 267-meter, 58-story intelligent building in Kuala Lumpur City Center (KLCC), the heart of Malaysia

Daewoo E&C has a strong track record in the construction of landmark buildings in Malaysia, including the 77-story Malaysia Telecom Tower, the Plaza Rakayat, and Vision City

Daewoo E&C has secured a competitive edge in winning future orders for intelligent buildings in Malaysia

Daewoo E&C has received a 190 million dollar order from Malaysia for the construction of a skyscraper, tentatively named the Kuala Lumpur City Center (KLCC) Tower. This is the first overseas construction project received by the company in 2009, and would seem to signal a good start to the year.

On January 7, Daewoo E&C received the LOA (Letter of Award) confirming that it had won the order for the construction of Kuala Lumpur City Center (KLCC) Tower, a high-rise building that will be constructed at Kuala Lumpur City Center, the hub of commerce, finance, and culture in Malaysia.

● USD 190 million project for the construction of a 58-story, 267-meter high-rise building

KLCC Tower will be built in KLCC (Kuala Lumpur City Center), the heart of Malaysia's capital city, Kuala Lumpur. It will be a landmark building - 267 meters tall, with four stories below ground and 58 above, and a floor area of 155,000 m². The sixth level above ground will be a podium with stores and amenities, and the upper stories will be used as office spaces.

The order was placed by Arena Merdu Sdn. Bhd, a Malaysian company and a subsidiary of KLCC Holdings. The project budget is USD 189.97 million, or KRW 249.8 billion.

The bidding method for the KLCC Tower construction project was a limited competition bidding. Including Daewoo E&C, only four construction companies were allowed to participate in the bid, all of which had been selected by Arena Merdu Sdn. Bhd. based on its assessment of the construction capabilities and technologies of the numerous companies in the market. Daewoo E&C was recognized for its superb construction capabilities and competitiveness, prevailing over its rivals to be selected as the company to take on the project.

● With its excellent track record in the construction of landmark buildings in the Malaysian market, Daewoo E&C is expected to win additional orders for high-value and high-rise buildings

Since Daewoo E&C made its Malaysian debut with the construction of an airplane shed for Subang Airport in 1983, it has built numerous landmark buildings in Malaysia, including Plaza Rakayat in 1992 and Vision City in 1995. In particular, its construction of the 77-story Malaysia Telecom Tower, which was completed in 1998, was a notable accomplishment. Malaysia Telecom Tower is a high-rise intelligent building, and has been singled out as an architectural gem in Malaysia as it embodies the bud of a bamboo, representing Malaysia's aspiration of achieving growth and prosperity in the 21st century.

With the construction order for the KLCC Tower, Daewoo E&C has now received 10 projects from Malaysia alone, worth a total of 1.4 billion dollars. This order has again reaffirmed the trust of order-placers in Daewoo E&C's experience and technology in the construction of high-rise, intelligent buildings. This, in turn, will place Daewoo E&C at an advantage in winning orders for high-value and high-rise buildings, more of which are expected to be placed in the latter half of the year.
